I joined Acco Eastlight in November 1997 as a Production Planner. Initially I was employed as the Filing Planner, covering manilla products such as Slimpick and Document Wallets. My first two months employment was fully occupied by a comprehensive Induction and Training programme, including external courses. In January 1998 cellular manufacturing was introduced and I was given the position of Binding Planner. This involves planning the core products of Acco Eastlight, Lever Arch, Boxfiles, Ringbinders and Presentation Ringbinders.
My main role now is to create and issue Production Plans. These have to be produced on a timely basis, to maintain and achieve high levels of customer service and manufacturing efficiency by work area. My other key responsibilities are to maintain Static Data, including Safety Stock levels, control both Finished Goods and WIP stock profile. Various methods are used to achieve this, including MPS, MRP and other computer-based systems.
We are always looking at improving efficiencies, deliveries and cost reduction. Over the last few years we have implemented various systems to achieve this. Some examples are Batch Planning, VMI, and direct deliveries from the manufacturing unit. Also to improve efficiencies we have sub-contracted some of the slower low volume products that have enabled me to get involved in purchasing and controlling sub contractors.
Being a Production Planner means I have a pivotal role, and need to closely liase with various departments such as sales, purchasing, manufacturing and distribution, from whom I get lots of support, to achieve on time deliveries, which we take pride in.
Since joining the company I have never had a dull week, each week always present new challenges/ obstacles to overcome. I work in a fast moving, high volume, pressurised environment, but it means the day passes quickly!
